The Nervous Systems Pathway to Spirit - Kriya Yoga & The Law of One

While sitting in meditation recently during my daily Kriya Yoga practice, I had an intriguing idea imparted to me. I got the feeling that I was uncovering an interesting concept and correlation to the Law of One material. This idea had to do with the human nervous system and its relation to the spirit complex. I intuited that if we can strengthen or increase the amount of energy our nervous system can utilize through the practice of Kriya Yoga and if we can then internalize our nervous system senses, we can activate what I will call our "Spiritual Nervous System" (SNS) creating the "gateway" of the spirit complex, allowing intelligent infinity to flow to us.

Although some of the points that will be reviewed in this article to support this idea are backed by science, the rest appears to be somewhat unexplored and does not provide direct empirical proof. Therefore, this idea is just a theory that I am proposing based on information found in Kriya Yoga texts and the Law of One. I'd ask the reader to please keep this in mind as you proceed.

In the Law of One material, Ra describes the spirit complex as a "shuttle/channel/gateway" where the "inpourings from all of the various universal, planetary, and personal inpourings may be funneled into the roots of consciousness, and whereby consciousness may be funneled to the gateway of intelligent infinity through the balanced intelligent energy of body and mind." (30.2). Furthermore, the spirit complex "embodies the fields of force and consciousness which are the least distorted" but the balancing of the spirit complex to be "the longest and most subtle part of your learn/teaching" (6.1). So we can see that the spirit complex offers enormous potential if developed through disciplined work. However, the spirit complex remains one of the more difficult concepts to grasp for many since it can be somewhat abstract. My hope is that by connecting the spirit to the nervous system via the SNS, we can begin to develop deeper understanding of the spirit complex.

In the Kriya Yoga tradition, it is said that by consistently practicing, one is increasing the amount of cosmic energy (intelligent energy) that the nervous system can utilize, allowing the practitioner to express and experience higher levels of consciousness. For comparison, Paramahansa Yoganada in his book Autobiography of a Yogi compared the normal human to a 50-Watt lamp and the practiced Kriya Yogi being able to accommodate billons of watts of energy generated by the Kriya techniques. This is a gradual process that slowly upgrades the bodies nervous system over time to allow for more and more "wattage" of cosmic energy, in turn strengthening our SNS and spirit complex channel.

For starters, we will look at some basic features of the nervous system. It is a system made up of billons of nerve cells (neurons) that transmit electrical signals along a communication network between the brain and the body. The brain and spine are the foundation of the nervous system, serving as the central channel for information to flow. The nervous system operates by taking information that is received through our senses (i.e., taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing) and sends them to the brain, which then processes this information and triggers the bodily response through our muscles (i.e., you pick up a hot cup of coffee, your brain receives this information from the pain in your hand and then tells your hand to release the hot cup to relieve the pain).

Then we have the concept of the SNS, which I am proposing functions similar to the nervous system but on the spiritual or time/space reality to receive and decode the most subtle sense energies of spirit. Another way to view this might be through the SNS receiving information directly from the Creator in the form of intelligent infinity, if the proper channel has been established.

If we continue looking at the nervous system, we can see the spinal nerve channel is interwoven with our six main energy centers located along the spine. Here the nerves create bundles or nerve plexuses at the energy center locations. Due to this, we can infer that our energy centers overall balance and health has an impact on our nervous system. Which can subsequently determine the amount of energy available to flow through our system and potentially limit the shuttle's connection to higher energies. This energy connection to the spirit is illustrated by Ra in (6.1) & (80.14):

"…The spiritual body energy field is a pathway, or channel. When body and mind are receptive and open, then the spirit can become a functioning shuttle or communicator from the entity’s individual energy of will upwards, and from the streamings of the creative fire and wind downwards. The healing ability, like all other, what this instrument would call paranormal abilities, is effected by the opening of a pathway or shuttle into intelligent infinity…"

"…It would be more proper to say that the adept is calling directly through the spirit to the universe for its power, for the spirit is a shuttle."

Another key factor in developing the spirit channel is the ability to connect with our subconscious mind. This can be seen by continuing to investigate Ra's analogy of the "roots of the tree of mind" relating to the unconscious aspects from (30.2). "…Moving down to the roots of mind we find the progression of consciousness which gradually turns from the personal to the racial memory, to the cosmic influxes, and thus becomes a direct contactor of that shuttle which we call the spirit complex. This spirit complex is the channel whereby the inpourings from all of the various universal, planetary, and personal inpourings may be funneled into the roots of consciousness and whereby consciousness may be funneled to the gateway of intelligent infinity through the balanced intelligent energy of body and mind…" Here we can see the levels to the unconscious mind that makeup the spirit channel used to then allow one to contact intelligent infinity.

I believe that the SNS is what creates this spirit complex channel because like with our external nerves that "sense" our experiences, the internal SNS can be the pathway to connecting with the subtler spiritual realms of our being. This is supported by Ra in (23.7) where it is indicated that the spiritual channel or shuttle's "sense" must first be activated; providing a hint that it is something that we can perceive through our senses. Additionally, I believe this can result in strengthening of our intuition as well, with the connections made to the unconscious mind, allowing us to receive more energy and information through this shuttle to make better decisions for our mind/body/spirit complex.

Building on the aforementioned points, if we are able to internalize our senses, I am proposing that this could activate the SNS or spirit channel, then allowing the gateway to intelligent infinity to begin to open. It would appear that this gateway is something that can be suddenly created/opened or gradually formed overtime through the development of the SNS. The process of internalizing the senses is found in the Eight Limbs of Yoga from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. This is illustrated through the 5th limb known as Pratyahara (turning inward/internalizing senses) which then prepares the practitioner to experience the higher limbs, culminating in the experience of Samadhi (Oneness with all things). If we can channel the "billions of watts" of energy generated from the Kriya Yoga practice internally to the SNS, I believe this can form the gateway of the spirit allowing one to then contact intelligent infinity, or achieve a Samadhi state. (For more information on the Eight Limbs of Yoga, please see my Blog post on Kriya Yoga & The Law of One Comparison)

By achieving the state of Samadhi, I believe one is making contact with intelligent infinity or intelligent energy based on the "level" of Samadhi achieved. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali indicate that there are multiple levels to the Samadhi state, allowing one to go deeper and deeper into the Oneness realization or contact with the Creator through intelligent infinity. Moreover, I believe this experience is made possible by the developed, internalized nervous system or SNS.

With this, I believe that Kriya Yoga and meditation practice can serve as a method to creating this spirit complex shuttle by developing the SNS. Through this practice, one can open this shuttle in a more dependable way. The importance of this is emphasized by Ra in (6.1) "…The purpose of carefully and consciously opening this channel is to serve in a more dependable way, in a more commonplace or usual way, as seen by the distortion complex of the healer. To others there may appear to be miracles. To the one who has carefully opened the door to intelligent infinity this is ordinary; this is commonplace; this is as it should be. The life experience becomes somewhat transformed and the great work goes on…"

Before closing, I wanted to bring up one final way to consider this idea by viewing the nervous system as a bodily antenna. Where the nerves receive electromagnetic information, the brain converts it to an electrical signal and then transmits the signal back out, similar to the function of an antenna. This would also mean that the stronger and more refined one's antenna is, the more powerful the signal they can receive. Furthermore, just as you would adjust the antenna's position or upgrade the cables to strengthen the signal, we can make upgrades to our nervous system through the practice of Kriya Yoga. By doing these practices, I believe one is also developing their SNS spirit shuttle simultaneously. Albeit, just awaiting the practitioner to internalize this built up power in the senses to open the gateway to intelligent infinity.

I have found this connection to be quite fascinating and make practical sense through the connections we have reviewed and of course, with support from Ra! If this is true, the overall benefits of developing our SNS appears to be extraordinary and have endless potential... I truly hope you found this article to be as intriguing and thought provoking as I did. I would love to hear any feedback on this idea, including any additional information that supports/disproves this theory.

With Love & Light,

Nathan
